RONALDO TO BE JAILED OF TAX EVASION

RealMadrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo, has purportedly cheated the Spanish taxman of more than €14 million, as indicated by the Madrid prosecutor's office, El PaĆs.

In an announcement, the prosecutor's office said that Ronaldo endeavored to conceal the cash he earned from his picture rights in Spain from the tax authorities, in what it said was an "intentional" and “conscious” breach of his fiscal obligations.

In Spain, tax fraud is deserving of up to five years in jail.

The prosecutor's office said Ronaldo "had the aim to get an illegal tax break."

It said he exchanged his picture rights to a shell organization in the British Virgin Islands, a tax sanctuary, and afterward on to an Irish organization that managed his brand. Prosecutors said the game plan was "totally superfluous" and its "sole reason for existing" was to hide the wage he earned.

The announcement likewise referred to Ronaldo's footballing rival Lionel Messi of Barcelona, who was convicted of tax fraud a year ago. Messi was given a 21-month prison sentence that was later decreased to 15 months. The sentence was affirmed by the supreme court a month ago, yet Messi is probably not going to face prison time since sentences under two years can be served on probation.
