Mourinho urged to turn down Manchester United job for Leeds instead
Jose Mourinho is favourite to replace Louis van Gaal at Man Utd but one football club owner thinks he should test his managerial skills elsewhere.
Massimo Cellino claims he has been in contact with Mourinho about taking control at Elland Road but questioned whether he "has the balls" to lead the Championship side.
The former Chelsea boss, who has been out of work since December, remains favourite to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford this summer.
Cellino told the Daily Telegraph : "I told him (Mourinho) ‘If you had the balls, you should come and manage Leeds.
"Bring Leeds into the Premier League and then the Champions League. That’s balls. You want to play football – come with me to Leeds'.
"Mourinho, like others, has to ask himself if he is still a coach. How do you find out? By going to Manchester United?"
M.E.N. Sport understands Mourinho is yet to sign a contract with United, contrary to reports, but the former Chelsea manager expects to land the role he coveted in 2013.
Mourinho's increased confidence has led to Sir Alex Ferguson 'surrendering' in his efforts to promote United's record appearance holder Ryan Giggs to the manager's role.
